I have an oversized Guess denim jacket that is lined and has this original belt that is to die for. It was my mom’s back in the late 80’s, and it is one of my favorite pieces to wear during the winter.
I mean, this jacket is so vintage and so beautifully preserved, it still has the original tags and prints on the lining. It’s covered in random pockets and zippers, plus the belt I was talking about is even denim.
Besides the fact that it’s an amazing vintage Guess piece, I love that it was my mom’s. Every time I wear it, she makes a comment about a fond memory in it. What’s not to love about that, right?
Denim jackets are notoriously long lasting, which is awesome because they’re not always the cheapest.
They come in a variety of colors, cuts, and styles. Some have studs, some have patches, some are distressed… there is a denim jacket for everyone in this world.

How to Wear a Denim Jacket With Leggings
It’s no secret that leggings are a girl’s best friend. Truly.
They’re comfortable, are great athletic wear and athleisure wear, offer support in places other pants don’t normally, and they are incredibly easy to dress up or make fashionable.
Que the denim jacket and leggings combo. There are so many adorable ways to style your leggings with your denim jackets, but I’m only going to show two favorites.
This first image pulls the denim jacket into the athleisure look. She’s wearing it over top of a hoodie or cowl neck sweater (love that), and with leggings and sneakers. It’s simple and cute. You could easily add a baseball cap to this outfit and up the athletic aspect!
With this other image, I wanted to show a legging and denim jacket combo that was a bit less casual.
The shoe you choose to wear with the outfit has a lot to do with whether it is a more athletic/ casual or more dressed up outfit. Here, she’s wearing suede ankle booties, which you wouldn’t wear unless you were wanting to look nicer.
Her denim jacket has embellishments on it (cute right?) which helps the dressed up feel. Beneath it, a linen button up, which offers come coverage on the back. It’s okay to not show all of your assets, all the time ladies!How to Wear a Denim Jacket With Jeans
Some of you may be old enough to remember the Britney Spears denim phase. Denim jackets, denim dresses, denim on denim. I’m not sure that those were her finest years, but who am I to judge.
We see chambray shirts with denim often (and it’s so cute), so I wanted to make sure you knew that you can wear your favorite denim jacket with denim pants. It’s okay to do denim on denim!
Love this first outfit with me for a moment. She’s wearing white jeans with her denim jacket. It looks great, and her combination of the gray shirt with her gray snakeskin mules makes it all that much better!
Don’t be afraid to wear your denim jacket with colored jeans either! White, black, green… I don’t care what color they are. Do it. Also, denim jackets come in colors and patterns as well, so that’s another option!
In this second outfit, she’s wearing blue on blue on blue! Isn’t it great? A lighter wash denim jacket with darker wash denim jeans, and a blue gingham button up.
I personally prefer a lighter and darker wash, so if I were to wear this outfit I’d do exactly this. But you can 100% wear jeans that are the same color as your jacket.
How to Wear a Denim Jacket With a Dress
Denim jackets look so amazing with dresses. All types of dresses, too. I’ve even known women to get married wearing denim jackets over their beautiful wedding dresses.
So, with white dress inspiration, check out this white summer dress and denim jacket outfit. Isn’t it so sweet? The shoes and matching purse are perfect, too. An amazing one to wear out on a lunch date or so.
In this other outfit, I wanted to show something a little more sporty and casual.
Her denim jacket is cute overtop of her black t-shirt dress. The added converse sneakers paired with the black baseball cap help give this outfit that athletic feel.
It’s totally easy to pair denim jackets with your dresses. I can’t imagine any dresses that a denim jacket wouldn’t go with, actually. So go on ladies, wear that jacket with that dress!
How to Wear a Cropped Denim Jacket
Alright girlfriend, are you sitting down? You’ll need to for how amazing this first outfit is. I mean, seriously. This cropped denim jacket is stellar with her crop top and pleated pants.
I don’t even have words for it, actually. The outfit without the jacket is cute, but the addition of it with it’s distressed bottom makes it so much better.
Wearing cropped denim jackets creates an opportunity for us to show off our waistline, so a lot of outfits have high waist bottoms on.
This next outfit is a cute distressed denim skirt with the cropped denim jacket with a cropped tank. She looks like she stepped out of a magazine, doesn’t she?
Again, the cropped aspect of the jacket creates an opportunity to show off some curves! If you’ve got that opportunity, don’t miss it!
How to Wear an Oversized Denim Jacket
Oversized denim jackets have a very special place in my heart because of my mom’s, what I referred to at the beginning of this post. During the winter, I like to wear it basically just like this first image.
An oversized denim jacket with a large sweater, over leggings, with sneakers. It’s a great comfortable way to style a denim jacket, which has the potential to be a bit constricting.
This second outfit shows an oversized jacket with either a long skirt or dress. I love that the heels make this outfit more fashionable and dressed up some.
Remember how I was saying that the shoes will make the outfit? These are great examples of how that works!
How to Wear a Denim Jacket During the Summer
Jackets and summer are a funny thing to consider, but they’re real and they’re great.
Take this first outfit for example. She’s wearing this denim jacket over a crop tank top, with high waist denim shorts. It’s super cute and she’s probably enjoying the summer breeze!
This second outfit is a cute sunflower set that is practically irresistible and it couldn’t be any easier.
Something important to remember is that denim jackets work with rompers, dresses, skirts, shorts, leggings, jeans, and anything else you could possibly imagine.
They’re amazing during all seasons, and are fun to layer things beneath (like hoodies) and on top of (like scarves). After this post you should have some extra inspiration on varying ways you can wear a denim jacket!
