Hello lovelies, I wanted to talk to you about wearing blazers!

Blazers, at their fashion birth, were notorious jackets for men that belonged to a club or group of some sort, typically of a “preppier” ivy-league status quo.

I'm a big fan of them and they are an a quick and easy way to give your outfit a boost.

Blazers - An overview

At some point around the 70’s, women began to pair them with a straight drainpipe leg pant, and they’ve evolved in fashion ever since. We’ve seen them have shoulder pads in the 80’s, be tailored, and worn as a piece of a power suit.

Today, we have the best of all worlds, thanks to the evolution and freedom fashion gives. If you follow my OOTD posts, you’ll see me wear a blazer all year round with several different styles.

How to Wear a Blazer With Jeans

Maybe it’s just me, but I love to tread that fashion line of, “technically these shouldn’t go together because they make opposite statements, but they look amazing, so I’m doing it anyway.” Does that make sense?

This first outfit here, is like that. Other than her distressed mom jeans, this outfit is otherwise very elegant. The addition of these jeans though makes it casually fashionable, and really, how simple is this anyway?

Besides the denim, she’s wearing all white. A white fitted blazer, a white top, white pumps (seriously love these), and even a white purse. EASY.

I have a favorite distressed denim with a blazer outfit, where I’m wearing heavily ripped jeans, a black top, a white plaid blazer, and fire engine red heels for that added color pop. Definitely check it out!

Let’s talk about this other outfit with the blazer draped over her shoulders. Draping a blazer over your shoulder is different than draping a regular jacket or cardigan because of one main thing: blazers are structured.

The structure makes it hold its shape, therefore it 1) does not fall off of your shoulders, and 2) looks like you’re actually wearing it without having to have your arms in.

Not falling off the shoulders is a no brainer, but not having to fully put the blazer on helps with temperature control, making a blazer even more attractive to wear during warmer weather.

This outfit is super cute, and super easy. Her black jeans and gray shirt are as simple as it gets. The addition of the army green blazer with gold button accents provides all of the character! Strappy heels dresses it up and shows she put effort into her outfit.

I like to wear my Plaid Blazer draped over a graphic tee with my jeans. In this outfit, I even rolled the sleeves to the blazer up some to give it more character. Easy, huh?

How to Wear a Blazer With a Dress

Wearing a blazer with a dress is like a surprise. Do you mean business? Are you here to party? I don’t know, it keeps things interesting. I’m all for it.

So this outfit, with the maxi dress beneath a blazer is great—but something I really love is that she rolled her sleeves up. Since dresses primarily are worn for warmer weather, doing this amplifies that feeling.

Plus, wouldn’t this be a cute work outfit?

Oh, but this other picture though. For starters, this floral dress is adorable. So her addition of the white tuxedo blazer is beyond amazing! I mean, hello!

A tip, if you’re going to wear a dress that is not fitted or structured, wear a blazer that will help enhance your womanly figure.

If you don’t have a blazer that is filtered or structured, adding a belt around the waist will do the trick! The worst thing is losing those beautiful curves underneath too much flowy clothing!

How to Wear a Pink Blazer

This one is a specific topic, I know. But after you see these pictures, you’ll understand why I encourage you to own and wear a pink blazer!

Like the blazer and jeans section above, this first outfit is incredibly versatile. It’s simple because all this is again is a heathered gray shirt tucked into jeans beneath her pink blazer. She miraculously found pink mules that match the blazer perfectly, and it’s love at first sight.

Plus, pink and grey is a really sweet combination.

If you haven’t seen that movie, Pretty in Pink, I highly recommend the 80’s classic. You’ll actually see some fabulous 80’s blazer wearing in it too, in case you need additional inspiration.

But let’s talk about this 2nd outfit. All white is brave! But the addition of the pink blazer is bold and brave on its own, in a soft and delicate way.

Something important here, with this look, is that her blazer fits perfectly and doesn’t swallow her or hide her physique. When wearing something dainty like this, it is an important thing to remember.

How to Wear a Scarf With a Blazer

AKA, the flight attendant look. Flight attendants have been business fashion icons since the start of their time—if you haven’t checked out the evolution of flight attendant uniforms, you won’t be disappointed!

So, this sassy look, with the blazer and scarf neatly tied around the neck is absolutely one to wear out on the town. I love that she’s wearing a long sleeve button down and has the sleeves of both the blazer and shirt rolled up.

Tucked into some denim shorts, this outfit could easily be rocked with a pair of heels, sneakers, or sandals!

Something to know, neck scarves are a thing on their own. If you have a bandana or a square scarf you can imitate the look too! Plus, they double as head bandanas.

Then there is this 2nd outfit. During fall and winter, not a whole lot feels better than a big scarf. It’s like it adds comfort and a security blanket, with bonus points because they’re awesome outfit accessories.

This outfit is one of those that works for pretty much every reason you’d be stepping out of the house. Maybe she’s off to work, running errands, or meeting friends for a drink! Whatever the occasion, wearing this scarf takes her outfit to a new level.

Beneath it is a simple white tee, jeans, a blazer, and flats. Everybody has this combination in their wardrobe.

How to Wear a Plaid Blazer

Plaid blazers are a favorite of mine, I think I wear those more than solid colored ones. I shared a look earlier in this post wearing a plaid blazer with a graphic tee, and I cannot stress how EASY it is to accomplish that look.

This outfit, with her plaid blazer over a black graphic tee tucked into high-waisted shorts is mega easy and looks great don’t you think?

Something to remember, is that you don’t have to wear a solid shirt beneath a printed blazer. As you can see here, there is no pattern or color clashing because of the graphic tee.

Then we have this other example.  It’s not uncommon to find plaid pant suits or even plaid blazers with a matching plaid skirt.

What is less common is wearing similar but different plaid on plaid, so this outfit had to be included because it is simply amazing, and I’m not even sure where to begin.

Yes, her blazer is the same color scheme as her trash bag pants, but the plaids are different. Plus, there is a good chance her blazer is a men’s blazer, which is equally awesome that she was able to make that work without losing her figure.

The simple white tee beneath helps break up the pattern, and the tennis shoes are an amazing casual addition! What do you think about it?

How to Wear a Cape Blazer

If you haven’t seen a cape blazer, behold! Bask in it’s gloriousness. Then make a note to purchase one for yourself (if you don’t already have one) that way you’re prepared for this fall. You’ll want this.

Check out this outfit. White tee, distressed denim, studded flats. All very simple. The cape blazer is not quite as work-formal as a regular blazer, but it still says “I mean business.”

I personally like to wear my cape blazer with leather or vinyl leggings. Don’t forget to check out that Plaid Cape outfit of the day!

This other outfit is sleek in black and white. Looks like she just stepped out of a magazine! I love the white on white. A perfect work outfit, don’t you think?

A word to the wise, if you’re going to wear a cape blazer with the likes of a dress or skirt, I’d recommend making sure that the body of the dress or skirt itself shows your curves off to ensure you don’t look like you’re hiding under the living room curtains.

Alright. We’ve gone over wearing five specific blazer looks that should have prepared you to wear yours out with extra confidence!
