There is one thing to remember when you’re thinking about wearing mules: they almost always work, and you need not be afraid.

I remember when mules became a fashion thing instead of a slip on shoe my great grandma used to wear. I was hesitant, but there has got to be a reason for it, right?

Mules come in a variety of colors and styles. Some have pointed toes, some have square toes, some have bling on top, some have heels, and others just fall in the cracks of all of those options. So, how do you choose?

My solution for not being able to pick just one, is to pick more! But that usually fills up the shoe rack in the closet pretty fast and can become quite expensive.

Okay, so. What if your mules have the front of a loafer? That’s typically a dressier shoe. Can you wear it casually? The answer is yes. When do you wear a mule? That answer is always yes, unless it is raining, sleeting, or snowing.

I wanted to show you guys a few examples of how to wear mules and look amazing doing so!

Oh, and in case you need clarification―mules have closed toes. Slides have open toes. Now that we’ve got that straight, let’s check out how to wear some mules!

How To Wear Mules With Jeans

Let me preface by saying that there is no wrong way to wear mules with jeans. They go with every color, and every style of jeans. This is great because it makes them a super universal shoe.

Of course, you don’t want to wear them in snow or rain because your feet will be cold and wet. But you get what I’m saying, right?

So in this first outfit, she’s wearing a black, graphic tee beneath a plaid blazer and slightly distressed, denim skinny jeans. Easy, right?

Then she adds this magnificent pop of yellow color with these mules! Bam! I cannot get enough of them. This is a perfect way to add an accent color to your look!

In the other outfit―fuzzy mules! YES PLEASE! I’m screaming on the inside every time I see these.

So, here she’s wearing mules with flared jeans. Not just any regular type of flare jeans though, because they’re both high-waisted and they have the bottoms cut off.

Super edgy, I’m not 100% sure what’s happening there, but I do know that I like it. This is proof that mules can go with any pair of jeans―even the ones that are unique.

The rest of her look here is simple, a Gucci belt and a black, crew neck t-shirt tucked in with a black alligator textured handbag.

But these shoes do the walking and talking with the fur and giant, shiny embellishment on top. I’ll say it one more time for those in the back: Mules work with ALL jeans.

How To Wear Mules in the Summer

Mules don’t require anything fancy. If anything, they will up the ante on your outfit! That’s a win in my book. During the summer, especially when it is excruciatingly hot, the last thing most of us want to do is layer on clothes to look stylish.

It is important to know that mules work with pretty much all of your summer attire. Dresses, skirts, shorts, rompers, you name it. Not much is better than a universal shoe!

For this first outfit, you see a simple, white cropped tank, which I actually think is a t-shirt with the sleeves cut off, and a pair of distressed high-waisted denim shorts. There is nothing fancy here whatsoever, yet her mules really wrap the look up.

Of course, if you wanted, you could add a black bag, or wear mules that were a pop of color, but the point here is simplicity, and she nails it.

Remember how I said they can dress up a look? They can easily make an outfit that is already semi- dressy looking to a full blown classy first lady look.

This second outfit shows an already cute sleeveless dress. But the mules she picked out have this extra accent on top of them that really steps the look up―pun intended!

How To Wear Mules With Socks

In this first image, you’ll see that she’s not wearing ordinary socks. Actually, technically, I’m not even sure these count as socks for real, BUT they count right now, and we’re going to play pretend.

These are fishnet socks. They’re a way to add an extra edge to your look without wearing full fledged fishnet tights. In the event you’re wearing jeans, these are the way to go.

Did you know that there are different types of weave for fishnet socks (and tights). Some are woven tightly and others are a loose diamond pattern like these. They also come in a variety of colors.

Since she is wearing jeans with no holes in them, there is no reason for her to wear the tights. Because her ankles are exposed, wearing these fishnet socks gives her outfit an extra punch!

The second image displays bold checkered socks with her mules. In my opinion, if you’re going to wear socks that show, make them fun and cute.

These are a great way to add a small touch of pattern and play into an outfit, even though her jeans are fun with studs on them and her turtleneck sweater has this almost chunky ribbed effect going on.

But of course, if you don’t want to wear bold, attention-grabbing socks with your mules, you don’t have to. Just make sure that if they’re white they’re actually clean and white, and that they have no holes in the heels!

Okay, so we’ve gone over how to wear mules with jeans, how to wear mules during the summer, and how to wear mules with socks. The answer to any question you may have regarding these should be: Just Do It. Make like Nike, girlfriend, wear those mules.

I want to hear what you think about them, though. Do you like mules? Which is your favorite way to wear them? Are you a pop of color kind of mule girl? Tell me in the comments below!
