Let’s be honest for a moment. Some days are not good hair days. We’ve all had them. Today was one of those for me. I had gone to sleep with a wet head and part of my hair just dried funky. It happens!
I needed to run out for something small today and didn’t have the time to completely redo my hair, so I opted for a beanie to cover what I wasn’t happy with.
How to Wear a Beanie With Long Hair
This first picture, is the cutest outfit! The pinstripe, overall skirt, a large sweater, tights. It’s all super cute together, so the addition of this pompom beanie couldn’t be more perfect!
Let’s take a look at her hair with the beanie though. She left it down and curled her hair, so it’s pretty and framing her face.
This second outfit shows wearing a slouch beanie in warmer weather. This was me today, wearing a beanie with my shorts.
Her outfit is so awesomely grunge with these boots and distressed denim shorts. If you’re not wanting to wear a cardigan over it, you could easily wear a heathered t-shirt or tank with it!
Her long hair is down and flowing. This is probably an air dried hair look, which makes for a perfect beanie use and grunge vibe.
How to Wear a Beanie With Short Hair
Short hair and beanies are super cute together.
I love this first outfit. I’m not sure if it’s just because she’s so beautiful with her short hair or I love the clothes and how comfortable they look, but whatever it is, she’s killing it.
Her beanie matches her shoes! Hello! Her hair is curled and dresses up her outfit. Just…love all of this with me!
With short hair, you’ll probably be a little limited with hairstyles while wearing a beanie. Longer hair gives more real estate to play with, which I’ll talk about in the next section!
In this other outfit, she’s wearing a simple black beanie with her leather jacket and black pants. It works well, and her hair is sleek underneath her beanie.
If your hair is long enough, you could put your hair in a low pony, or pigtails for extra flare!
How to Wear a Beanie With Different Hairstyles
When my hair is long, a fishtail braid is usually my go-to style when I wear a beanie with more casual outfits, so this first outfit has a special place in my heart. Braids are AMAZING because there are so many different types that can be done.
This beanie is super cute with a giant furry pom pom (don’t you wish you could touch it)! With a loose fitting cute sweater and those Tim’s work boots, this outfit is super fashionable and super comfortable.
Behold, the ponytail beanie. I think the first time I saw these I laughed and thought, “But really? Who’s going to wear that?”
HOWEVER, this is a super cute look. It’s a high pony in the bun beanie, and if you haven’t seen a big, beautiful, messy bun in one of these bad boys, you need to! They’re amazing.
These beanies have a hole in the top for your hair to come through, which allows you to wear your hair up and still enjoy all of the beanie goodness.
Whatever you do, don’t wear a beanie without a hole on top OVER your bun. It’ll look like a cone, and you don’t want that!
How to Wear a Beanie for Winter
Ah, the beanie in its natural environment. Snow and cold weather! Isn’t this a cute outfit? I love beanies with patterns on them, it’s sort of like… when you have that amazing pair of patterned shoes that you just have to have.
Her big chunky knit patterned pom pom beanie looks awesome with her fur lined hooded vest, sweater, and knitted mittens.
I saved the best for lastーthis one is my favorite! She’s wearing so many layers, different patterns, different textures, and it all just looks fabulous.
Something that you’ll see with beanie fashion, is that pom pom beanies are typically winter beanies. You’ll see slouch beanies all year long, but the big pom pom typically, truly is a cooler weather feature. Think… snow bunny!

I know that we are not even quite mid summer yet so the heat has not peaked, but don’t hesitate to style a beanie with your summer outfits!
Imagine wearing a slouchy beanie with a tank and shorts at a beach bonfire, or maybe you’re at a concert! Evenings and nighttime can still get chilly, so you can accessorize your outfits with that favorite beanie.
Of course, come fall and winter be sure you have them accessible because they’re too cute to not wear! Hello, snow bunny!
